This is another of my favourite shots from my incomplete project 365 of 2019. It’s a hand held shot of a lotus flower taken at the Brisbane Botanic Gardens at Mt. Coot-the. The grid shape is a reflection of the glass roof frame in this exhibit. I was using my recently acquired Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 lens, at 1/2000th Sec at f/4, ISO 640.
It’s rare for me to use an ISO setting higher than 100, and I could easily have handheld this shot at shutter speeds available with 100 ISO, but I was aiming to introduce a little noise into the image, as I wanted to try to achieve something of a film-effect. This took a little post-processing in Lightroom to get the effect I wanted, introducing a bit more noise than actually appeared on the original file. I think the shot emulates other shots I took on Standard Fuji 400 iso film in the eighties.
Sometimes I can’t really decide if I love a shot or not. Weeks or months later, when I look at it again, and I spend several minutes staring at it…that’s how it passes the test for me.
