Yup, like most project 365’s, I failed. I take no consolation from the fact that most of them fail, because I should have known better. It began with ambitious determination, and died after about 135 shots. Let me tell you the story…
Well, as I said, it all began with ambitious determination. I had been in a bit of a photographic lull, and I needed, or wanted, something to kickstart me into the habit of getting the camera out regularly. I never expected, or intended, to take a shot every day for a year. What I intended was to try to average seven good shots a week, and end my year with shot number 365. Of course, I realised fairly quickly that even with the best will, that was going to be hard. Hard because I have to balance work, family life and other things, and even though I was determined to make the time for one good photo session a week, getting seven good shots out of what may only be a two to three hour session is a ridiculously high goal. Seven average shots, perfectly feasible; but that wasn’t my goal. I didn’t want to be taking shots just for the sake of taking shots. And within a few weeks I found that I was publishing sub standard work, (on instagram, as that was where I was presenting my project). just because I had to keep up the challenge. And I started to feel that I was lowering the bar when I posted an image that I knew I didn’t really like. So although it took a while to accept defeat, I finally did. Forced into submission because I wasn’t going to present sub standard work, and that’s a challenge that I feel we should all rise to. I think another downside of the failed project was that this site, a showcase for all things video/photographic/adventure, drifted off to sleep too. This post is a little more than a year since the last. Not great that!
So, here we are in 2020, a new decade. And no specific goals to be seen; well…not here anyway. My plan over the coming days is to pick what I feel are the shots from my Project 135 (as opposed to 365) that I am happiest with, and, well…discuss!
Please feel very free to join the discussion and take what you will from my words.
See you…
